REASON TO BELIEVE

She made me lie down when I was ill; she covered me up with extra blankets when I was cold; she listened to me sing when we were alone; she believed in me. She was my Mother. I have a daughter now and my daughter has a daughter and we still have Reason To Believe. So this album is for my Mother and I sing once again of struggle and hope where the "Working Man" works, and we all hold our heads up and walk on through!

Walk On Through

There’s some things in a small town
That everybody knows
Who’s alone in that big house
When the cold winds blow
And a secret you held inside
Was betrayed by a friend somehow
And now you wonder will you ever rise
Above the laughter in the knowin’ eyes
Hold your head up and hold it up high,
walk on by
Walk on by

Now when you live in a big town
Everybody knows
Who’s up there in that big house
Who’s outside in the cold
And when your comforts are oh so few
And it’s a struggle to get on through
And you wonder will you ever rise
Above the ashes to the other side
Hold your head up and hold it up high.
walk on by
Walk on by

Chorus
Hold you head up and hold it up high
It’s not easy but you’fl get by
Walk with me and IN walk with you
And together well walk on through

There’s some things in this big world
That everybody knows
You don’t point your finger
And you don’t throw stones
Now there’s a meaning in all we do
So let the goodness come shining through
And we wonder will we ever rise
Above the difference in another’s eyes

Hold your head up and hold it up high,
walk on by
Walk on by

Chorus
(Repeat Chorus)

Walk on through
Walk on through

Two Steps From Broken

Why does it hurt so bad
To say goodbye to love
And why does it take so long
To finally see the light
And why does the heart feel exposed
Like a story the whole world knows

Chorus

And when love passes over
And leaves you behind
To deal with the hurting
That fills op your life
You’re two steps from broken
And you’re one step from losing your mind

Why do the tears in the eyes
Burn the moment they fall
And why does the love in the soul
Turn forbidden and cold
And why does the world seem to know
You’re somebody out there alone

Chorus

Why do the nights seem so cold
With memories that won’t let you go
And why does the hurt seem to grow
Deeper with each tear that flows
And why does the world seem to you
So empty now lonely and blue

Chorus

Now you're two steps from broken
And you're one step from losing
your mind

City Child

She’s a City Child
And there’s a crack in the pavement
where the grass runs wild
She sees the beauty on the crowded
streets
In the city subway her heart skips
a beat
She’s a lonely child

And there’s a tear in her heart that
she tries to hide
She knows the strong ones do survive
On the crowded tramcar she holds
on tight

Chorus
Be there tonight
Oh you know she’ll call
Remember how it was when you said
goodbye

The days move on
And there are times she targets that
she’s all alone
She talks to people she don’t even
know
In the hurried city she thinks of home

She recalls you now
And there’s strength in the memory
you’re there somehow
There’s no denying she’s tied to you
But like birds that fly, she's flying too

Chorus
(Repeat Chorus)

Doors Of The Cemetery

Chorus

The doors of the cemetery open when you’re dead
The gates to heaven will open when you’re saved
The doors on earth are open to the rich and the strong

And we the survivors are coming in last
Identity crisis is hitting us fast
And pigeonhole Harry he’s out there shooting with a gun

Chorus

With thinkers on the left, doers on the right
All concerned parties are putting up a fight
And peace-loving Harry he’s out there mopping up the blood

Chorus

The keys to the doors are often abused
When left in the hands of the
chosen few

Don’t turn away if it happens to you If it happens to you
The longer you sleep, the longer you dream
The sooner you wake, the better you feel
And with eyes wide open there’s no telling what you might see

Now you turn tome and I turn to you
Together it’s frightening just what we
can do
And power-struck Harry he’s out there looking like a foul

Chorus

(Repeat Chorus)

Reason To Believe

I’ve been going over my life
And I feel you in the breeze
You’re a constant reminder
Of what used to be
And I know you walk beside me
On the earth beneath my feet
And though you’re only a memory
You still give to me
A reason to remember
And a reason to believe

I’ve been going over your life
And I’ve seen you on your knees
You so wanted favours bestowed
upon me
And I know that in our distance
You were never out of reach
And through you’re only a memory
You still give to me
A reason to remember
And a reason to believe

Chorus
And the love that you gave me
Is the reason I feel
Why the heart needs affection
And the soul needs the peace

I’ve been going over our time
And when parting had to be
When you live through the changes
Oh the learning cuts deep
And I know that in your silence
You found a way to speak
And though you’re only a memory
You still give to me
A reason to remember
And a reason to believe

Chorus (Repeat Chorus)

When The Lovin' Is Through

We walk in the same house
We sit in the same chairs
The table is set for two
But there's something missing there
And tonight we'll be alone under the same roof

Chorus
How long can we stay
Living this way
When the loving is through

We visit the same friends
We talk on the same things
And when they ask "What's new?"
I usually turn to you
And we stay long enough to talk all the lighter stuff

Chorus

Yes the loving is gone
But we keep hanging on
To what we once knew

We wish at the same well
in the middle of fools' square
But the bottom is covered now
With wishes that linger there
And if wishes do come true
And change what we're goin' through

Chorus
(Repeat Chorus)

Causing The Fall

I was so resigned to so many things
That have happened in my life
Like so many windows in a tall building
There's nowhere left to hide

Chorus
But you, I wasn't ready for you
To walk out of my life
Didn't you ever hear
Of breaking it gently
When you're causing the fall

It was so many nights of holding on tight
And changing the wrongs to right
Like so many lovers, we were quick to discover
The things we loved so much

Chorus

Now its remembering feelings with so much meaning
That enter my dreams at night
Like so many memories hanging on for the endings
That sometimes never come

Chorus
Repeat Chorus

The Music's Going 'Round Again

Standing on the balcony
On the eighteenth floor I can see
Old haunts and memories
The city skyline staring back at me

Chorus
And this is where my song began
I tried to hold you, you weren't ready then
And now I've come back as a friend And still the music's going round again

Holding onto history
On the eighteenth floor I can see
New ways a different scene
The city skyline reaching out tome Chorus

Round again, round again
And still the music's going round again

Feelings that come over me
On the eighteenth floor I can see
The old you inside of me
The city skyline's got a hold on me

Chorus
(Repeat Chorus)

Round again, round again
And still the music's going round again
Round again, round again
And still the music's going round again

Sound Your Own Horn

e you ever sat and stared at the ocean
And imagined yourself on a pirate ship
Oh life was so much easier then
With a sword in your hand and your face to the wind

Chorus
And the world when seen through the eyes of a dreamer
Can take you places that you've never been
And lift you away in the middle of sundown
Just in time to watch your ship coming in

Sometimes the world can be weary
We're often lost and all alone
And sometimes you can be your own hero
Raise up your voice
And sound your own horn

Have you ever watched lovers in moonlight
And felt your body slipping away
Oh life was so much easier then
With a shoulder to lean on at the end of the day

Chorus
(Repeat Chorus)

Have you ever watched a movie on TV
And felt yourself playing the part
Oh life was so much easier then
As the centre attraction of fortune and fame

Chorus
(Repeat Chorus)

Raise up your voice
and sound your own horn

Working Man

Chorus
It’s a working man l am
And I’ve been down under ground
And I swear to God if l ever see the sun
Or for any length of time
I can hold it in my mind
I never again will go down under ground

At the age of sixteen years
Oh he quarrels with his peers
Who vowed they’d never see another one
In the dark recess of the mines
Where you age before your time
And the coal dust lies heavy on your lungs

Chorus

At the age of sixty-four
Oh he'll greet you at the door
And he'll gently lead you by the arm
Through the dark recess of the mines
Oh he'll take you back in time
And he'll tell you of the hardships that were had

Chorus
(Repeat Chorus)
(Repeat Chorus)

God I never again will go down under ground

Good Friends

Don't forget when the day is done
Who's around when the morning comes
Who's always there to cheer you up
When you're down and out of luck

Chorus
Good friends light a candle
Whenever they're around
And old friends keep it burning
They never let you down
Oh down

It's not always rain and shine
Not always clear sometimes
But to know when you turn around
There's someone who's reaching out

Chorus

And when my day was darkest
You shone a light for me
And all through the good times
You shared it with me

We all count our blessings
When we go to sleep
And for what's been given
Has brought me to my knees

There is nothing greater
Than to reach a bend
And see an old familiar face
Holding out a hand

Chorus

They never let you down
