PORCH SONGS

Sitting on the front porch writing out my songs along came a blue jay and sang right along ...That's how this album felt - easy and smooth with songs like "It's For You", all my life, all my love, it's for you. Sitting in my rocker watching as children leave home. Yet the light burns on and we "Tell The World" all about it...

Rolling Thunder

Your daddy was a waterboy
In 1935
And later on he lived his life
Working in the mines
I often heard your mother say
There's black dust in the clothes
And when you start to breathe the air
The dust gets in your soul

The morning sun was peeping through
A single light was burnin'
A corner in the kitchen
Where he washed his hands
For workin'
I don't know why he bothered
They never did come clean
And all the years of workin' hard
Were buried deep within

Chorus
And have you ever stood outside
And watched the sky in wonder
And know that underneath the ground is the sound
Like rollin' thunder
You work your day you take your pay
And all that they are givin'
And count the times you heard the line
Be thankful for this livin'

Someday in the afternoon
Playing backyard poker
The coveralls were hanging up
The shift was turning over
The lamps were all in darkness
Not a single light was shining
The whistle blows and those will go
Where shadows dare to follow

Chorus (Repeat)
You work your day you take your pay
And all that they are givin'
And count the times you heard the line
Be thankful for this livin'

Coming Around Again

There's a new generation walking the road
It was under the same sun moons ago
We were too old to stumble and too young to fall
We were skipping along like the clouds in the sky

And I learned about life and I learned about passion
With our hearts' ablaze and the radio blastin'
It was you and me and like birds of a feather
We swore in our hearts we would stay together

Chorus:
Those were the days of milk and honey
It was a land so bright and sunny
To see you walking
You're coming around again

I can tell by your walk you follow the sun
Oh those days when we were young
We were close together yet away from the crowd
Planning our future and thinking out loud

We could almost reach into the sky
Pull down the shades and bring on the night
It was you and me in the days that followed
In the sands of time we found tommorrow

Chorus (repeat)

All For Love

All for love
I give it freely
Love for all
I wish for the world
Some say nothing
Lasts forever
Love has lasted all these years

All my life
I long for true love
Life with you
I've been blessed
Some say when
The flower is blooming
I say it's much more than that

Chorus:
Love can be in many faces
You know it's true
When it's there
Sometimes fair, and sometimes fleeting
Oh gentle heart beware

All my days
Have quickly flown by
Days I've known
I can't look back
Some say wait
For the rainbow
I say now with all my heart

Chorus

Repeat first verses

Love has lasted all these years

Field Of Daisies

I'd like to lie in a field of daisies
And feel the sun shine down on me
I have often walked Glengarry road
In the warm summer heat
And I've seen the land
Pass from hand to hand
And the tourists
They come and they go
When the sun goes down
On this patch of ground
It's where I leave my soul

Seventeen years
On the same back porch
We both decided to leave
Enough of the small town
And of the small talk
We had bigger dreams

So we waved goodbye to the gathering
A send-off of family and friends
When the car turned the last corner
We knew everything would change

I like to watch the sun dance on water
See the moonbeam through the trees
I have often walked the old shore road
In the cool evening breeze
And I've seen the land
When the cold comes down
And the tourists
They come and they go
When the sun goes down
On this patch of ground
It's where I leave my soul

Never again
Will I see the light
Waiting for my return
Surrounded by loved ones
Now onto new ground
So much for us to learn

So we wrote a book between us
And some of the pages don't fit
But it's an easy read
In a familiar theme
And sometimes it makes me weep

Repeat first verse

Walk Softly

Oh the moon is just a sliver tonight
And I'm hanging in the shadow of love
And I feel my heart has swallowed my soul
And I'm hanging on for all my might

And the night is just a day away
And I'm standing in the shadow of change
And I see the other side of love
And it's tearing away at my heart

Chorus:
Walk softly when you go
Turn the lights way down low
There will be no burning love tonight

Chorus

And the clouds have covered up the sky
And I feel this love is out of control
And it's tearing away at my soul

Chorus (repeat twice)

I Guess I Always Will

There’s some people I do recall
I’ve heard their names from time to time
And I wonder what they’re doing now
Or if they’re doing at all

And I wish I had the time it takes
To see them all face to face
Like treasures that you hide away
It’s good to be reminded

Now Katherine held the summer job
In the canteen underneath the hall
And Benny he’s now living in his
sun-down years

And A.A.’s store has stood so long
It far surpassed the test of time
And boulders that were boundary lines
Have faded with the years

Chorus:
There’s a light in the wondow
In a house upon a hill
And I see Mary looking out
And I guess I always will

Now Agnes with her smiling eyes
When last we met her head held high
It was clear to me how time can fly
She made it look so easy

Now Michael takes a daily walk
And others they still talk to God
And doors are open when you call
And you never need a reason

Chorus (repeat)

Steal Me Away

Go where the music is playing
And we'll sing like we've never before
And we'll open our hearts to a world that is ours
And we'll sing 'til we can't sing no more

Chorus
Steal me away like a call from the wind
There is so much here to remember
Early to rise when the sun fills the sky
And my heart to this land will surrender

Oh when the night has fallen
And we stand with the ones that we love
Drawn in from the start like a hand round the heart
And we're held by this place that we love

Chorus

We're lost in the shadow of all that you are
You were there when they stood with their backs to the shore
They came with their dreams of so long ago
With a hint of the homeland you captured their soul

For all this world has to offer
And the places we may never see
But a glance through my eyes tells me I hold the prize
This is all I ever will need

Chorus
Repeat Chorus

Stay Out Of Harm's Way

I knew I was home yesterday
When the fog rolled in to stay
There's something about the ocean
Where the sailors had their day

And there's something about the way
You always lean into the wind
You never seem to listen
But you always seem to see

Chorus:
And you're just one of the ones
I met on my long road
And when I felt the ground was shaky
I knew just who to call
And you'd say steady as you go
And be true to all you know
And when you hear that whistle blow
Stay out of harms way

I drove by your house last night
Just to see if you were home
My journey's never over
'Til I see the ones I love
And there's something about the way
You always make me feel at home
You never talk of losing
You always seem so strong

Chorus

Just before the morning sun
I'll catch a ride to town
I know that you'll be sleeping
And I'll be onward bound
And there's something about the way
You always know I'll return
And everytime I see you
There's a lesson to be learned

Chorus

Sweet Memory

Sweet memory
My heart is ever yearning
Just to relive
That magic night with you
Under the stars
We danced away the hours
And I recall
You said "I love you too"

Chorus:
Oh why
In those days we spent together
I couldn’t see
All of my dreams
Were never meant to be
Now that you're gone
The band plays on forever
Under the stars
I’ll dream my love of you

Love of my life
You'll always be remembered
Time can't erase
The hours I spent with you
Out of the blue
Your eyes come slowly stealing
Deep in my heart
I'll dream my love of you

The Light Burns On

She goes to the kitchen and closes the door
She looks out her window and stares down the snow
Changes are coming
And time is moving on

She's lived in this house for a long, long time
She knows every sound within these four walls
And around every corner
A memory lingers on

Chorus:
In the winter of '85
She said another goodbye
You know they've all left home
They've made a life of their own
But she knew this is how it would be
A time when everyone leaves
Now the door is open
And the light burns on

She visits the room at the top of the stairs
She listens for voices; there's nobody there
Yesterday's wishes
And a bedtime fairy tale

She goes to the room, turns the TV on
She looks at the pictures that hang on the wall
Shadowed in blue light
She says a silent prayer

Chorus

But you knew this is how it would be
A time when everyone leaves
The door is open
And the light burns on

Tell The World

Chorus:
Tell the world
About all of it
Take your pride
And just swallow it
Find a road
And just follow it
And find your way back home

He walks
Along side of you
He lives
Inside of you
He watches over you
For you are not alone

Chorus

This world
Keeps going 'round
This life
Can get you down
His love
Is all around
All around you

Chorus

Take a step
Like a drop of rain
It will lead
Into bigger things
Take a hand
There's a better day
A day for you and me

Chorus (repeat)

And find your way back home
And find your way back home

It's For You

It's for you
I give my heart and soul
It's for you
I wish the sun to shine
It's for you
This day and all my life
In all I do
The love comes through
It's for you

Take this heart
I'll wear it out for you
Take these eyes
They cry when you feel blue
Take these arms
That reach to comfort you

All my life
All my love
It's for you

All my life
All my love
It's for you

When the wind
Blows around your door
When you fall
And you're not sure
Most of all
When the day is through
Think of me
All my love
It's for you

All my life
All my love
It's for you

Repeat first verse

All my life
All my love
It's for you
