HOME I'LL BE

How could I know the words that you said would come back again and again. I didn't realize when I was your child just how the story would end. And I have to say you "Taught Me Well" for "Home I'll Be" no more thoughts of leaving for you're as timeless as the water, unlike the "Southeast Wind" that tore up memories I once left behind, but nothing can keep me away.

You Taught Me Well

I remember September, the rain falling down
I thought the sun would never shine
I spent all my mornings, I heard all the stories
Of you and your days gone by
And while I was listening, my mind it was drifting
Dreaming of the rainbow's end
And in all my confusion, somehow you got to me
And I'd have to say you taught me well

Well into December, the snow falling down
I felt the cold wind through my door
I heard all the warnings, you brought to my mornings
Whenever a storm came by
And how I remember, that comfort and caring
Was something that we'd always known
And in all my confusion, somehow you got to me
And I'll have to say you taught me well

Chorus:
And how could I know the words that you said
Would come back again and again
I didn't realize when I was your child
Just how the story would end
And blessed are those you've loved and you've known
You may never see them again
But you know in your heart they all left their mark
And you only hope you do the same

Then came the morning you walked out my door
I thought my heart would never mend
You spent all your seasons and gave me the reasons
To follow my rainbow's end
And hearts that will listen to words born of wisdom
Never dreaming this would end
And in all my confusion, somehow you got to me
And I'll have to say you taught me well

Chorus

But you know in your heart they all left their mark
And you only hope you do the same

Call Me And I'll Be There

You wanted to do this alone
I understand
You asked me to wait by the phone
What could I say?
But if there's something you can't do
And you just can't make it through
Call me, call me

Sometimes we go it alone
I understand
Just having someone who knows
Someone who cares
But if you find the nights get you down
You know where I'll be found
Call me, call me

Chorus:

Just call me and I'll be there
On a wing and a prayer
Don't you know there's nothing now
Could keep me away
And like the wind that carries the leaves
Or the earth beneath your feet
I'll be there, I'll be there

Taking the time that you need
I understand
You just can't give up on your dream
Dreams slip away
But if you find no wind in your sail
And the crossing somehow fails
Call me, call me

Chorus:

Just call me and I'll be there
On a wing and a prayer
Don't you know there's nothing now
Could keep me away

Watch Love Grow Strong

Where did she come from?
Well she's been here for a while
And tonight you'll know the secret
That your friends knew all along
And they tried to warn you
It's something you should know
When you take a love for granted
Someone else will come along

Chorus
And offer loving arms
When you never would
And take time to listen
When you never could
Here comes the closeness now
That comes with a touch
And you can sit back tonight
And watch love grow strong

What'll I do now?
Why you'll have to carry on
And tonight will be the first time
You'll be going home alone
And your heart will realise the damage
has been done
When you turn your back on real love
Someone else will come along

Chorus

Watch love grow strong tonight
The way it should be
Where unspoken words are heard
And love holds the key

Here comes the closeness now
That comes with a touch
And you can sit back tonight
And watch love grow strong
Yes you can sit back tonight
And watch love grow strong

This Thing Called Love

When the night is calling
Calling out to me
I'm off to see my baby
Who's awfully good to me
Ain't no denying
This heart is buying
This thing called love

And when my day is ended
And evening comes around
I know just where I'm going
I know just where I'm bound
Ain't no denying
This heart is buying
This thing called love

Chorus:
Now love is where you find it
Sometimes you find a lot
You wrap your heart around it
Don't ever let it stop
And if you don't abuse it
And if you treat it right
It'll be there in the morning
It'll be there in the night

So take it from me baby
Here's what I'm telling you
If you find someone to love you
Don't ever be untrue
Ain't no denying
This heart is buying
This thing called love

Chorus

So take it from me baby
Here's what I'm telling you
If you find someone to love you
Don't ever be untrue
Ain't no denying
This heart is buying
This thing called love

Ain't no denying
This heart is buying
This thing called love

Home I'll Be

I see the mountains, feel the salt air
I have reasons to behold
All the wonders that never cease to be
You're as timeless as the water
You're as gentle as the fields
I caress you oh Cape Breton in my dreams

And you never let the hard times
Take away your soul
And you stopped the tears from falling
As you watched the young ones go
You're as peaceful as a clear day
You're as rugged as the seas
I caress you oh Cape Breton in my dreams

Chorus:
And home I'll be
Home I'll be
Banish thoughts of leaving
Home I'll be

I see the blue lakes, feel the passion
I have reasons to believe
There are places that will bring you to your knees
I hear voices they are calling
I have reason to pay heed
I caress you oh Cape Breton in my dreams

And you kept your arms wide open
To let your children know
Wherever there is distance
The heart is always home
You're as soulful as a choir
You're as ancient as the hills
I caress you oh Cape Breton in my dreams

Chorus /Repeat Chorus

Southeast Wind

David and I collected old bottles
Ladder back chairs and broken down rockers
When we first came together we had such ideas
Full of the future and full of good feelings
David and I bought a farm in the country
Tore down walls and planted tall trees
Sat up in the comfort of working and sharing
And planning a lifetime of living together

Chorus:
Then a Southeast wind came and blew up my mind
Tore up the Memories I'd long left behind
Started me thinking and started me feeling
But most of all it started me dreaming

David and I gathered up our belongings
Parting the ways when the dreams started falling
We visit the children on separate occasions
And justify lonliness whenever we're able
David and I live in separate places
And sometimes I run off to live in the spaces
I sit in the rocker, set chairs round the table
And bury my past with gentle persuasion

CHORUS
Planning a lifetime of living together.

Chorus
David and I gathered our belongings
Parted the ways when the dreams started falling
We visit the children on separate occasions
And justify loneliness whenever we're able.

Chorus
David and I live in Separate places
And sometimes I run off to live in the spaces
I'll sit in the rocker set chairs round the table
And bury my past with gentle persuasion.

The Hurtin' Kind

What can I say that I haven't said before
And words I once used
They just don't come easy anymore
Through desperate eyes, we try hard to hide
That losin' feeling inside
When the world turns on you
Any words you might use are the hurtin' kind

And how could I know this was never meant for good
We held on so tight and deep in the night
I was married to you
Now memories of love are all lost to time
And our love is lost for good
When the world turns on you
Any words you might use are the hurtin' kind

Chorus:
Yes we're hurtin; and we both know
We had sweet love and now it's gone
We had it all, it was oh so good
Now it's so sad we both should lose

Where can I go that I've never been before
Is it true what they say, if time has it's way
It will do right by you
Watch when I cry, the tears they don't dry
They'll fall and they'll just break your heart
When the world turns on you
Any words you might use are the hurtin' kind
Chorus

Through desperate eyes,
We try hard to hide
That losin' feeling inside
When the world turns on you
Any words you might use are the hurtin' kind
When the world turns on you
Any words you might use are the hurtin' kind

Old Flames Never Die

You walked into your life
With the dreams that you must follow
And I walked into the night
With my heart alone and hollow

But I know I can't win, I just can't let go
Take a look at my face and you will know
Old flames they don't die, don't you know
They just step aside

You were always around
And your light was always shining
And I was drawn to the warmth
It was safe and it was binding

But I know I can't win, I just can't let go
Take a look at my face and you will know
Old flames they don't die, don't you know
They just step aside

Chorus
Old flames never die, they just step aside
When loving grows dim, it's hard to give in
When love it was new, it burned just for you
It was strong

When you open your heart
You know the chance your taking
And dreams don't always come true
Sometimes we are forsaken

But I know I can't win, I just can't let go
Take a look at my face and you will know
Old flames they don't die, don't you know
They just step aside

Chorus/Repeat Chorus

Does It Ever Change

You know it's not clear to me
When you're heading for the fall
Should you hang on and break it
Or just gracefully bow

Chorus:
And does it ever change with a lover
Is it always the same
You're looking for the sunshine
And running from the rain

You know I've fallen before
And I know how it feels
It's like laying your heart down
Stepping over your dreams

Chorus

You know it's not hard to see
When you're heading for the storm
And you're looking for shelter
And there's nowhere to run

Chorus

You know I've fallen before
And I know how it feels
It's like laying your heart down
Stepping over your dreams

Chorus/Repeat Chorus

You're looking for the sunshine
And running from the rain
